“Brown-Forman, founded in 1870 and headquartered in Louisville, Ky., is a diversified producer and marketer of fine quality consumer products. Through most of its first 85 years, Brown-Forman was primarily a bourbon company, marketing Kentucky’s finest whiskey. Starting in the mid-1950s, the company began a series of acquisitions that transformed it into an international enterprise. These included the purchase of Jack Daniel’s in 1956 and the subsequent acquisition of Canadian Mist, Southern Comfort, Hartmann Luggage, Bolla Italian Wines, Fetzer California Wines, and California’s Sonoma-Cutrer Winery. Most recently, the company purchased Finlandia Vodka and Tuaca, an Italian liqueur. In fiscal 2005, the company reported net sales of $2.7 billion and net income of $308 million. Brown-Forman is among the top 10 largest spirits companies in the world, sells its brands in more than 135 countries across the globe, and has offices or facilities in 30 cities worldwide.”
