Send them off with a smile: Outplace exiting employees
You know the drill: Another merger, another downsizing, another round of layoffs. Or maybe things just haven’t worked out. But regardless of why you’re parting company with a terminated employee, helping them find their next job is good HR practice, good business, and almost always the right thing to do.
“Being laid off is one of life’s biggest challenges and can send shock waves through your company, too,” says Michael Carrillo, president of CPGjoblist. “It impacts everyone around the terminated employee, including their co-workers, spouse and children.
“Outplacement assistance eases the transition for both your company and the employee.” Carrillo says. “And the true test of a program’s success is how quickly your employee finds new work.”

NOTES from the revolution
CPGjoblist has added the following partners to its growing portfolio of consumer products industry employers: C. B. Fleet Co., Inc., Gladson Interactive, Inc.,Natrol, Inc., Philips Lighting, RAB Food Group, LLC, Ryan Partnership and White Wave Foods. Welcome aboard!
Strong April jobs numbers stilled concerns that the economy might be entering a soft patch. But higher gas prices and chilly weather caused consumers to cut back spending in March. Retail sales rose a slight 0.3 percent in March, far below expectations. According to Economy.com, "It is also possible, although no data are yet available to support or refute the claim, that apparel prices have begun to decline due to the removal of quotas and surge in imports from China. If so, this would hurt nominal sales growth," the site reported.
CPGjoblist client Unilever was among the companies honored by the Food Marketing Institute’s 2005 Retailer Choice Awards during the FMI show last week. Unilever was recognized in the entre/meal category for its innovative Frozen Dinner for Two and in the HBC category for Dove Hand & Body Lotion. Other winners: Poore Brother’s Cinnabon Cookies, Lifeway’s Kefir-Cultured Milk Smoothie, Coleman Natural Foods’ Purely Natural 100% Beef Burgers, and ACH Food Companies’ Dec-A-Cake Crayola Icings.
California and the West lead the nation in overall health, according to a study released last month by CPGjoblist client Wyeth Consumer Healthcare. The golden state has five of the top ten places in the Centrum Healthiest Cities Study, a “health report card” based on key factors such as health status, nutrition and exercise, mental health and life balance that can contribute to overall well-being. San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento and the Orange County area finished in the study’s top 10. San Diego finished in the number 12 spot. Seattle (fourth), Salt Lake City (fifth), Denver (ninth) and Austin (tenth) made it almost a clean sweep for the West; the only non-Western city to finish in the top 10 was Washington, D.C., ranked second.
