Empowering HR: New tools for overworked recruiters
They know the company. They know the people. And they know what it takes to recruit and retain the talent that organizations need to compete. But too many human resource executives are not getting the resources they need to fill their talent pipelines, according to CPGjobs President Michael Carrillo and other HR experts.
Suzanne Baugher, former recruiting manager for ACNielsen Spectra, now working for Nova Recruiting, says the field's emphasis has shifted away from talent acquisition and development. She says companies need to take "the focus off the transactional side of HR" and focus on "building strategic relationships. It has to go beyond the immediate requisition need -- you have to build a referral process." MORE

NO STIMULUS YET: Government figures show that consumer spending inched up just 0.2 percent in April, despite retailers' hopes that stimulus payments sent out by the government starting late in the month would boost sales. According to a small but broadly diverse group of consumers who tracked their rebate spending in detail for the Associated Press, there was no mass rush to the malls for shopping sprees after the payments started showing up in May. The greater economic ramifications may not be seen for months, experts told the AP. A total of 131 million households will receive a total of $110 billion by the time the last payments are sent in mid-July. Most individual taxpayers are getting checks of up to $600 this year, while couples receive $1,200 plus $300 for each eligible child under 17. People earning too little to pay taxes but at least $3,000, including seniors whose only income is from Social Security, get $300 if single or $600 if a couple. There are no payments for the wealthy: The amount starts to phase out for those with incomes above $75,000 or $150,000 for couples filing jointly.
