Position Responsibilities:	Director of Engineering Description: Engineering and technical leader for the product category participating as a member of the core team responsible for the development of new products from initial concepts to product delivery. Primary focus is defining, developing and proving out the designs. In addition, this position includes working with Asian implementation team, to put all new products into production and verifying that they meet the Industrial Design intent and agreed upon product requirements and engineering specifications as tooled, qualified and produced in volume. Reports To: Vice President of Engineering Roles / Responsibilities: Responsible for planning, managing, and executing multiple new product development projects that includes the following: oR&D, Design, Product Specifications, oProduct risk assessment oFMEA DFMEA analysis. oPrototyping, Engineering Test plans & testing oDesign Reviews oTool Release, Engineering Builds oPilot runs through full scale Production. Work with Marketing to evaluate new product concepts from end-user perspective and assess feasibility as an engineered product. Perform competitor product benchmarking and collaborate with quality team to define product performance metrics and test methods. Apply best practices in establishing and validating product requirements and specifications. Conduct internal and external design reviews and manage the execution of resulting action items. Collaborate with China Engineering team over tool development and engineering build requirements. Actively participate in program updates with executive management and issue action items to assigned team members. Work across global resources located in different time zones. Identify and investigate new technologies for the category. Build solid working relationships and cooperation skills with other personnel through effective communication. Work with Quality to prioritize and evaluate product returns and related tear down information for the category. Qualifications: Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written) along with good sound interpersonal skills. Must have a minimum of 10 years experience in a lead Project Engineering roll of complex integrated assemblies and or engineering systems. Must have a minimum of a BS in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related science. Must have 10+ years of on the job experience in high volume consumer products Demonstrated experience as a leader in cross-functional teams in matrix organizations. Extensive experience with new product development process and transitioning development programs through manufacturing processes. High level of knowledge of plastic injection molding, die casting, and sheet metal, manufacturing processes. Knowledge of any or all of the following - AC/DC electrical design, electronic circuit boards, AC & DC motors, Heater and heater control technology strongly desired Experience with US, Canadian and European standards and certification schemes Experience with Asian Product development Decisive with sound judgment in making design / priority decisions regarding projects. Willing to work in an environment that fosters open discussions and exchanges without causing friction within and outside team members. Must be willing to travel 25% or more to and from Asia (or other) as needed. Must be flexible to customer and marketing opportunities. Must be reliable and able to work in a fast pace environment under pressure and time constraints. The selected individual will work with a skilled and motivated engineering team including but not limited to Mechanical/Electrical Engineers, Designers, Marketing, Test Technicians, Manufacturing, Quality, and Consultants on multiple projects Mandarin Chinese language skills are a plus.
