General Responsibility Satisfactorily operate a sales route, distributing and merchandising the company`s products in a manner which enhances the profitability of the company. Emphasis is on service to our customers, presenting them with fresh products in sufficient quantity to maximize the sales of products, which enhances customer profitability. Nature and Scope of Position Works autonomously the majority of the time, driving a step van route truck in a safe manner: delivers products in a predetermined area to grocery stores, restaurants and other accounts. Must interface daily with all account personnel necessary, and other customer employees and consumers to sell out company and its products; is expected to generate additional business through proper distribution and merchandising, effective promotional activity, soliciting new customers and maintenance of positive good will; work schedule will include traditional weekend, early morning hours. Principal Duties/Essential Functions * Arrives at work on/before the scheduled start time to properly pre-trip the route truck, properly check load and supply requirements, and accommodate any special or unique situations; ensure that the vehicle leaves the building by the time required to properly serve customers on the route. * Wears an authorized company uniform and maintains a neat, clean personal appearance, provides timely daily service to accounts, provides courteous service, responsive to customer needs. * Strives for first position on grocery store shelves to attract consumer attention and generate additional sales. * Ensures accuracy of daily load, uses handheld computer and/or route book and associated equipment to accurately account for product sold at each stop; ensures accurate sales invoices for each customer; accurately account for daily sales activity at the end of the day, in strict adherence to Company financial/security policies and procedures: communicates daily with the Sales Supervisor to further evaluate the marketplace conditions and opportunities. * Use proper ordering and distribution techniques, ensure that products offered for sales are fresh; rotates and/or removes unsold product from the accounts in accordance with established Company procedures; uses effective selling techniques to gain maximum account cooperation. * Maintains effective record keeping to track trends in the marketplace Is alert to competitor activities and takes advantage of promotional opportunities to ensure proper distribution of products; includes ordering several days in advance, a sufficient quantity of products and the right mix of products, and then ensuring that the right product is in the right account at the right time. * Follows established company guidelines and uses own creativity where possible to enhance sales through effective merchandising of products: includes clean, neat shelf displays, use of point-of-sale advertising material, special display activity, callbacks in key accounts, and the like. * Recognizes that the route truck is a traveling advertisement for our products. Operates the vehicle in a safe, courteous fashion in accordance with defensive driving techniques as taught by the company; works in a safe manner, is alert to and avoids creating safety hazards for customers in accounts. * Actively solicits business at establishments (Non-Stops) on the route that are not currently buying/using our product. * Performs numerous special activities, at the direction of sales management, to build profitable sales on the route. * High school diploma (or GED) required * Must have basic math and communications skills and knowledge to accomplish required paperwork and read instructions, safety and traffic signs etc. Should be skilled at driving standard shift vehicle in a safe manner. * Must have a good driving record and posses valid driver`s license. * Must have the ability to routinely stand, stoop, bend, lift, and enter/exit from a route truck during then normal course of a day; must have the ability to lift/carry 55 pounds for a distance of 100 feet and stack containers to a height of 6 feet; must be able to push/pull 400 pounds on wheeled dolly/cart: must have the ability to determine color codes and must have the dexterity to use hand-held computer. |
